The staff are very accommodating. The rooms are nice.
A lack of obvious signs when you get into town. Found it by driving around the town. Seem to be short on staff as well - expect to wait. Understandable, though, given the remoteness of the location. The hotel is very nice, as are the women that run it. Last option if headed west across Labrador until Goose Bay.
Took out some family for what we thought would be a nice dinner while we visited Port Hope Simpson on vacation. The first red flag should have been that there was no one else in the dining room at supper time. There were 5 of us dining, we had to serve ourselves coffee then we couldn't find the waitress to get tea when one of our party wanted tea. The orders came out spaced quite far apart and when I saw how soggy the French fries were on my sister's plate, I requested that mine be cooked for a longer time. She said sure, but they weren't. Three hot Turkey sandwiches were extremely cold, with soggy fries and gravy too salt to eat, and 2 hamburger platters that also had soggy fries. I could understand if it had been busy but there was no one else there. As we were finishing up, 2 more people came in to eat, (by helicopter)but they were staying at the hotel for business so it may have been the only place they could eat. The waitress didn't come back to check to see if our meal was okay, and when we were ready to go, we couldn't find her. We had to wait at the front desk to find someone to pay our bill. Don't bother going to the Alexis. Food and service wasn't worth the time or the money.
We reserved for one nights stay on the same day we would stay. However, the roads were great so we kept driving to the ferry so we didnt have to drive the two hours in the morning. I called to cancel and they charged me $28.75. I understand business is business but I wasnt very happy. Its not like we had the room booked for very long just a few hours.
